Yamuna cruise to start next month, Delhi Minister in Navi Mumbai to inspect vessel

As part of its riverfront tourism and recreation plan, the government is set to launch a 40-seater cruise.

Kapil Mishra -Mishra said the initiative would allow residents of Delhi to enjoy experiences similar to those available in popular tourist destinations, such as Goa, without having to travel outside the city.

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra is in Navi Mumbai to inspect the vessel, which will launch Delhi’s international-standard luxury cruise on the Yamuna river from February.

As part of its riverfront tourism and recreation plan, the government is set to launch a 40-seater cruise.

Maintaining that he is in Mumbai to personally inspect the cruise vessel, Mishra said on Monday that its construction is in the final stage. It is scheduled to depart from Navi Mumbai to Delhi on January 20 and is expected to reach Delhi within 4-5 days.

“After reaching Delhi, the engine will be fitted in the vessel, and in February, it will be thrown open for public use,” he added.

The cruise will operate upstream on the Yamuna river between Wazirabad and Sonia Vihar. It will be a hour-long round trip, with a capacity to accommodate 40 passengers at a time. Mishra said onboard facilities, such as music, entertainment and food services will be provided at affordable prices. Initially, both individual and group packages will be offered.

He added that the project is part of a broader plan to develop a recreation-and-leisure hub along the Yamuna. “This will not be limited to a cruise service. Water sports, recreational activities and a full-fledged leisure zone are also being planned at the cruise terminal. The objective is to provide an international luxury experience at affordable prices for the people of Delhi,” he said.

Mishra said the initiative would allow residents of Delhi to enjoy experiences similar to those available in popular tourist destinations, such as Goa, without having to travel outside the city.
