NEW DELHI, MAR 15: Indian Rayon industries, promoted by Aditya Birla group, has shut down its Rs 196 crore sea water magnesium plant in Vishakapatnam due to the company8217;s inability to find any market for the product.
quot;We have closed down the plant within six months of our commissioning it in 1997. Cheap imports and dumping of fused magnesium from China left no market for Birla8217;s product, quot; a director on the board of India Rayon told PTI.
Sea magnesium is basically used as refractors for lining steel tubes and pipes in steel plants to increase their life by about 70 to 80 per cent.
The official, who did not want to be identified, said the company has already informed financial institutions including ICICI, UTI and IDBI about the closure. quot;We have also registered a case with the directorate general of anti-dumping to take action against dumping of fused magnesia from China, quot; the official said.
