Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation KSRTC is to go environment-friendly. The Corporation plans to run buses on renewable fuel. Around 2,500 KSRTC buses will run on ethanol and 2,000 buses will be converted to biofuel by this year end. These two projects under the Clean Development Mechanism, specified under Kyoto Protocol, are approved by the World Bank, said Managing Director of KSRTC AP Joshi.

The first project is mixing of ethanol and diesel. Ethanol will be replaced by diesel at a ratio of 7.7 per cent. The second project is replacement of diesel by biofuel by 10 per cent. By this replacement, KSRTC will save fuel, achieve 30-40 per cent reduction in the pollution level and go for carbon trading.
