The success story of a 19-year-old girl from a nondescript village in Bihar, who turned to bee-keeping to support her own education, has found a place in the National Council of Educational Research and Training NCERT textbooks.

Anita Kushwaha, a resident of Bochaha village in Muzaffarpur district, took up bee-keeping at the age of 10. With a little support from her mother Rekha Devi, who gave her Rs 3,000 to rear bees, Anita managed to make a profit of Rs 50,000 in the first year of her venture. The saga of her success has been incorporated in the fifth chapter of a Class IV textbook on environmental studies.

Her path-breaking work caught the attention of UNICEF which honoured her by declaring her the 8220;UNICEF girl8221; in 2006.

Anita is now doing her English Hons from a women8217;s college in Muzaffarpur.
