LOS ANGELES, July 27: India8217;s Davis Cupper Mahesh Bhupathi and Rick Leach of the United States, entered the doubles final of the 303,000 Infiniti Open, defeating the second seeded Australian pair of Mark Philippoussis and Patrick Rafter here today.
Bhupathi and Leach, the fourth seeds, won 7-6 7-5, 7-5. They will now meet the top-seeds Sebastian Laureau Canada and Alex O8217;Brien US for the title. This will be Bhupathi8217;s third Tour final of his career, all of which came this year.
Bhupathi and Leander Paes, ranked 22nd in the world in team, won the Gold Flake Open doubles title in Chennai in April this year and then won the Prague Open on clay soon after. In fact, the Indian duo had won four titles on the trot beginning from Chennai, the other two titles being Challengers in Prague and Jerusalem.
Bhupathi partnered with the former world number one doubles player since his regular partner Paes had opted to train at Orlando this week. The Indian also had a good run in singles, qualifying for the main draw and then defeating Daniel Nestor of Canada before falling to former world number one Jim Courier in straight sets. Leach8217;s regular doubles partner on the Tour is fellow-American Jonathan Stark.
