
PUNE, MAY 11: Apparently irked at Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia8217;s 8220;initiative8221; in solving the civic problems and the subsequent media coverage of his decisions, Mayor Datta Gaikwad today sent a letter to the civic boss requesting him not to announce policy decisions 8220;unilaterally.8221;
Underlining the need for more coordination between administration and the elected representatives, Gaikwad hoped that all the important press briefings would be made in presence of the party leaders as decided in the their meeting with him.
Gaikwad has lamented that the elected representatives were in total dark when the action was taken against chief of tax assessment department Hanmant Chavan. He has hoped that Bhatia would respond to his letter in the future.
Meanwhile, Bhatia has sent letters to all the corporators explaining them his proposal on change in allocation of budgetary provisions to the tune of Rs 38 crore. He has requested the corporators to consider his proposal in view of the importance of the work.
Bhatia has also said he had instructed all the ward officers to initiate all the works in the budget, suggested by the corporators. The letter says the municipal commissioner would be available for the corporators on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 4 pm and 5 pm. Meanwhile, several corporators today expressed their strong resentment against Bhatia8217;s proposal of making major changes in the budget with the fear that the development works in their wards would be seriously affected. The corporators also discussed Bhatia8217;s recommendation to the general body to suspend the members of school board.
