ISLAMABAD, May 7: A number of opposition leaders and workers have been arrested and warrants issued against some others, triggering apprehension of a major showdown between the Nawaz Sharif Government and Pakistan People8217;s Party PPP of former premier Benazir Bhutto.
Police swooped on at least a dozen PPP leaders and workers on Wednesday in a surprise move, arresting them in connection with the violent demonstration in front of parliament on April 20.
