
PANCHKULA, Sept 9: The Panchkula Police today recovered the body of Surjit Singh, 38, an employee of Bharat Electronics Ltd.
The bloodstained body was first discovered by the people out for a morning walk, at around 5 a.m., on the main road in Sector 19. The matter was immediately reported to the police.
The deceased8217;s damaged scooter and helmet were also at some distance. Some currency notes were also found near the body. Surjit8217;s slippers were also found a little away from his body. According to the victims wife, Kusum Lata, the police have also recovered an STD bill from the site. She claimed that Surjit Singh had gone out the previous night to make a call to Jodhpur, but he failed to return home. She added that he often used to spend his nights with his friends.
However, the people who had assembled at the spot alleged that the police reached the site more than an hour after it was informed about the body. However, when Newsline visited the spot, some of the Bharat Electronics Ltd. employees, who had been called over by police for identification, were present there. However, initially they had problem identifying the body as the face of the victim was smashed beyond recognition. However, the identity was confirmed later after the discovery of an identity card and a licence from the deceased8217;s pocket.
The police consider it an accident case, however, the victim8217;s wife claimed she suspected foul play. She even alleged that some union members of the concern were against her husband who was the senior vice-president of the Bharat Electronic Panchkula Employees8217; Union BEPKU.
The police have registered a murder case on the statement of Kusum Lata. According to police sources possibility of death due to road accident cannot be ruled out. A case has been registered under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code and further investigations are on.
The police have sent the body to Sector 6 General hospital for postmortem.
