When herve leger gifted fashionistas the Bandage dress in the mid-1980s, it became a cult item for red carpet dressing. Two decades later, the contour-curving dresses have become the rage all over again. Victoria Beckham sported a purple and silver number at the Marc Jacobs spring-summer 2008 showing, Rihanna wore a pink number to a pre-Grammy party, and Eva Longoria and Lindsay Lohan got themselves a few. Now, the fad seems to have finally come to India. This year, at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, a sizeable number of designers showed their interpretation of the classic number. From newbie designer Prashant Verma to Ranna Gill to Shantanu and Nikhil, the ramp saw various interpretations of the dress. “I have used delicate crepe to make it look like a dressing over a wound,” says Verma. Shantanu and Nikhil on the other hand, have used their outfits in rich tones of gold, black and copper to enhance the hour-glass look through the conventional wrap-around pattern. Take your pick and get gorgeous.
