CHANDIGARH, July 2: The students of the Government Central Crafts Institute for Women CCI, here today organised a colourful cultural evening at the auditorium of the Government Polytechnic for Women to mark their annual function.

A whole array of cultural programmes, including Haryanavi and Himachali dances, ballet Heer-Ranjha, bhangra, solo song and classical dance was presented by the students to a packed house. Heer-Ranjha, a Punjabi ballet, was a hit with audience. Dr S.K. Aggarwal, Director, Technical Education, UT was the chief guest. In his address, Aggarwal said that the conventional approach to vocational education needed to be updated keeping pace with the fast changing trends in this era of globalisation. He disclosed that a proposal for starting new diploma courses in fashion technology from the next academic year was under consideration.

Earlier, K Ranga Rajyam, principal of the GCCIW, presented the annual report of the institute and appreciated the joint effort of staff and students in imparting quality technical education to the trainees.

Later, the chief guest gave away the prizes to the outstanding students of the institute.
