CHANDIGARH, JUNE 22: The Punjab University Vice-Chancellor has approved the admissions to the B.Com course for the session 1999-2000 to be held college-wise quot;strictly on merit8221;. A press release issued by PU registrar Prof Paramjit Singh stated that the practice of holding centralised admissions to the course had been quot;dispensed with in cities where there are three or more colleges8221;. It was added that the admissions have been allowed in anticipation of the approval of the Syndicate.
The release stated that the admissions would be done in accordance with the reservation policy of the state and the merit criteria prescribed by the university.
HSA warns of agitation
The Haryana Students8217; Association HSA today threatened to launch an agitation against the closure of canteens and messes in the university hostels.
HSA president Bhupinder Singh Bhuppi said that the closure had caused immense hardships to research scholars and others who were staying in the hostels during the vacation. HSA press secreatry Mahendra Pratap said that Bhupinder Singh had met the acting Dean Students8217; Welfare Prof B. S. Ghumman and apprised him of the situation.
Several students have stayed on for the UGC exam on June 27 and other competitive exams, it was added.
PU staff to hold rally today
The Panjab University Non-Teaching Employees Federation, comprising seven staff associations of non-teaching employees of the university, are holding a mass protest rally in the PU Admninistrative Block on June 23, in pursuance of their quot;long pending demands8221;, a press release issued by federation president Dharam Paul Sharma said.
