JANUARY 28: Karsan Ghavri, the former Indian pace bowler, is among the star attractions of the Third Pratt & Whitney Aviation Golf Tournament, which will be held at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club on Jan 29.

“The format of the tournament had to be changed this year to accomodate the large number of entries,” said MP Singh, Director and Country Manager of Pratt & Whitney. He said that the invitational tournament would be a much bigger event from next year to accomodate the rising demand to participate in the championship.

Honnappa captain

C Honnappa of Vijaya Bank will lead Bank Sports Board (BSB) in the 20th Federation Cup Kabaddi Tournament at Patna from Jan 30-Feb 2.

State-ranking carrom

Around 400 players from 12 districts of Maharashtra would take part in the Pune Mayor Trophy first Maharashtra State-ranking Carrom Tournament at Pune from Feb 10-13.

Organised jointly by the Pune District Carrom Association and the Maharashtra Carrom Association (MCA), the tournament would have three events — open singles, women’s singles and veteran singles (above 45 years of age) — for a total prize money of Rs. 60,000 and trophies.

Mukund carrom

Thane Metropolitan Gymkhana will organise the first Milo Triangular inter-school and junior college athletics championship at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium, Thane, from January 30-February 1. The event will be held over six age groups — U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 — and will have 56 events. 2,500 athletes from about 100 schools are expected to participate.

IC colony SC will organise its VIIIth minithon — Run for Health — on February 6 at 6.30 am at IC Colony, Borivli. The event will be a selection trial for the Mumbai Suburban district team for the state road race, 2000.
