PATIALA, May 19: The auction of octroi posts in Nabha was deferred today as a large number of traders staged a demonstration and gheraoed the Deputy Director, Local Bodies, on a call given by the Punjab Beopar Mandal.Earlier on as the beopar mandal men were staging a protest, the shopkeepers observed a partial bandh for about one hour.According to Vijay Kapoor, vice-president of the Punjab Beopar Mandal, the traders protested against the late arrival of the Deputy Director of Local Bodies. They gheraoed the rest house and did not allow the Deputy Director till he announced the postponement of the auction. The traders also did not permit Saroopa Rani, Municipal Council chief, and other councillors to come out of the guest house.Parampal Singh Sidhu district police chief confirmed the bandh report and added that no untoward incident had been reported.
