Full five days after nine explosions claimed 86 lives and left several hundred injured, the Assam Police released the sketch of one of the suspects on Tuesday on the basis of descriptions provided by eyewitnesses.

The sketch released was of a suspect in the blast that killed at least 15 persons, including three lawyers, in front of the courts of the Kamrup deputy commissioner and CJM on Thursday.

“We have hired a professional portrait artist who can draw pictures on the basis of descriptions provided by eyewitnesses. We are soon releasing some more sketches,” Jayashree Khersa, additional SP, Guwahati City Police, said on Tuesday.

The additional SP said sleuths had estimated that he would be 35 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches in height and weighing about 68 kg. “The sketch released has been finalised after several rounds of verifications done by several eyewitnesses,” Khersa said.

At least two eyewitnesses have come out in public giving descriptions of some persons they suspect to be the culprits in the blast that occurred between the DC’s court and the CJM’s court. While lawyer Pradip Konwar said he saw two suspicious-looking persons minutes before the blast, one person who had taken his sons to the planetarium claimed he saw two persons whose descriptions matched those of the lawyer’s. Both have said they had seen two persons, one in kurta-pajama and the other in trousers and shirt, with one having a light beard. The face in the sketch released is one with a light beard.

Meanwhile, the police picked up four more persons on Tuesday, but refused to divulge any details.
