
A 226-run partnership for the second wicket between centurions Swapnil Asnodkar and Anand Singh enabled DY Patil to take a big lead of 258 runs over Mumbai Police on the second day of their three-day 8216;A8217;Division Times Shield Cricket Tournament match on their home ground in Nerul on Tuesday.
Asnodkar8217;s knock of 169 was studded with two sixes and 21 hits to the fence while Anand Singh8217;s unbeaten innings of 152 included 19 fours. Singh was then involved in a unbroken 118-run stand for the third wicket with in-form batsman Siddharth Chitnis who remained not out on 61.
An unbeaten century by Onkar Khanvilkar kept Bharat Petroleum8217;s BPCL hopes alive to take a first innings lead over Tata Sports Club as they finished the day at 171 for 3 at Police Gymkhana. Tata Sports Club resumed at 270 for 6 and went on to score 358, which included 40 penalty runs as BPCL bowled five overs short. Southpaw Nishit Shetty was unlucky to miss his century by six runs.
Leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 84 while medium pacer Rajesh Varma finished with 3 for 63. Western Railway did well to take a vital first innings lead of 31 runs over Indian Oil at the Mahalaxmi ground.
At close of play, Indian Oil were 67 for 1 in their second innings. A half-century by Hrishikesh Kanitkar 61 helped Air-India to finish the second day at 156 for 3 in reply to Central Railway8217;s total of 358. Harshad Rawle scored an unbeaten 122 off 243 balls with the help of 19 fours. Mohammad Kaif was still batting at 41 at the end of the day8217;s play.
