An assistant sub-inspector of the Chandigarh Police was arrested on Friday on charges of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy at gunpoint. ASI Dalwinder Singh is posted at the Sector-26 police station.According to the victim, a student of Class XI and resident of Sector 30, Singh picked him up from the road dividing Sectors 27 and 30 and took him to his house in the Police Colony in Sector 20 where he committed the offence on Thursday night. “I resisted and tried to raise an alarm but he put a gun on my head and threatened me with consequences,” the minor alleged.Speaking to mediapersons, his father said the boy was taking a stroll on the road around 10 pm. “When he didn’t come back at night, I thought he must have gone to a friend’s house. At 4.10 am, he returned home with the ASI,” he said.He said his son narrated the entire episode to him. “Fearing that the police may try to hush up the case, I approached the home secretary to recommend an impartial probe. While he could not be contacted, his wife called up the SSP and passed on instructions to look into the matter,” he said.A neighbour, meanwhile, said the child had left home last night after a quarrel with his parents. ASI Dalwinder Singh refuted the allegations and claimed that he had only tried to help the child who was loitering on the road late at night. “I was on patrol duty. The boy told me he wanted to visit his friends in Sector 43 and asked for help. I took him to my house because he wanted to change his clothes. I did nothing to him,” Singh claimed. The ASI said a friend of his son had come from Himachal for some personal work and was staying with them.A medical examination of the accused and the victim was conducted on Friday and samples sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Sector 36 for tests. Sources, however, said no external injuries were found on the victim’s private parts. The ASI has been charged with sodomy, illegal confinement and threatening the victim.Industrial Area Station House Officer Yashpal Sharma, meanwhile, said the accused officer could not have any gun in his possession as no weapon had been issued to him.Senior Superintendent of Police S S Srivastava said: “The officer has been suspended. The allegations are serious and we are looking into the matter. There was no reason to take the minor to his home. There is a suspicion and a probe has been initiated.”
