Sydney, September 24: Argentina stunned Champions Trophy winners the Netherlands 3-1 in the super league of the Olympic women’s hockey here on Sunday.
The Pan-American champions, the only team in the six-nation round not to carry any points from the preliminary league, led 2-1 at half-time.
It was a remarkable performance by Argentina, who returned to the Olympics after 12 years following their 5-2 win over the United States in the final of the Pan-American Games last year.
While Argentina gained three points from the win, the Dutch also have three points by virtue of their 4-3 win over New Zealand in the preliminary league.
Argentina take on China and the Netherlands clash with Australia in their next match on Monday.
