CHANDIGARH, NOV 17: As part of the anti-encroachment drive carried out in Sector 47-D for the second day today, the enforcement staff and workers of engineering wing of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh MCC removed hedges and concrete structures from the road sides. In a similar drive conducted in Sector 27 and Sector 45, hedges, concrete and iron gates were removed.

Supervising the operation in Sector 47-D, the officials said the residents of the area had been given prior information about the operation and were also given sufficient time to remove encroachments on their own.

They added that the recarpeting and other maintenance work of the roads will be undertaken after the anti-encroachment drive.

However, Sector 45 residents resented the pick-and-choose policy of the enforcement staff. Yuv Raj, a resident of the area, a particular house was not touched in a row seven houses.

The police force was deployed at the site to keep the law and order situation under control. However, no untoward was reported during the drive.
