The name game
TV 18 was producing it earlier. Now I’ve changed it, and I’m producing it myself. It has become a platform for the film industry where producers, directors, actors and actresses — even technicians — can speak about the industry. I feel that up until now, only journalists speak about the film industry, and their views are often biased. Here the industry will speak about their own people.
What are the new highlights of the show?
On one level, it will be a platform to publicise new films. For example, I’ve got a Josh special where Sharad Kapoor, Chandrachur Singh and Abhijeet will be on the show. Then we also have a Bichoo special where Bobby Deol, Guddu Dhanoa and Shweta Shetty will feature. It’s a 50 minute format with commercials and all.
But isn’t production a bothersome job?
It is. It keeps me on my toes all the time, but I’ve realised that we have two brands in this house — Parmeet Sethi and Archana Puran Singh — and these brands are in demand in the market. Other people are using them and selling them anyway. So we thought we should market our own brand ourselves. But Parmeet and I are not going to be exclusive to our company only. We are looking at other projects too, which others will produce and direct. At the same time, our projects are not only going to have us. We’re going to look at outside directors and actors. We want to make serials, sitcoms, chat shows, game shows, tele-films and even feature films. But the stamp of quality will be the hallmark of my company.
Why did you give it your name?
I realised that when my office would call people up, the doors would figuratively not open until they took my name. I realised that my name helps in achieving the target of the show. The people who are coming on the show are doing so because of me. And it was gratifying to know that the response to me was so good that people were willing to come only because of me. That’s why we gave it my name.
