Balbir Singh, the Indian-born physiotherapist who has been at Michael Schumacher8217;s side for the past 10 years and throughout his Ferrari career, wants to spend more time with his family and will step down at the end of the season.

8216;8216;Balbir is one of the few men that I could trust 150 per cent,8217;8217; the seven times champion said. 8216;8216;The split will hurt me. I will miss him. I must simply accept that he wants to build a new future,8217;8217; added Schumacher.

8216;8216;With Balbir I spend nearly more time than with my wife,8217;8217; Schumacher had told newspapers in 2002. Come August and the Turkish GP would be the last race this duo would make an appearance in the Ferrari paddock.

This long-standing Indo-German relationship was termed 8216;8216;loyal association8217;8217; by Ferrari. Balbir, born and raised in Amritsar before emigrating to Germany, ensured that Schumacher maintained peak fitness level during the rigours of the demanding nature of the sport.

For Schumacher, Balbir was everything 8212; guru, pal and, like his wife Corinna, always maintained, he8217;s been the closest to Michael since long. 8216;8216;What I really appreciate about Balbir is his total dedication to everything he cares about. If we work together it is more than professional,8217;8217; Schumi had told in 2003. 8216;8216;Balbir has a strong sense of what I need and what the situation is. I am glad we met and worked together.8217;8217;

Having decided to get on with his own life, Balbir says it8217;s time he spent time with his family wife, a 10-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter. But Balbir is sure about one thing: his friendship with Schumi will be eternal. After all, Balbir was a special person for Michael, particularly after the former had seen him come out of a rough patch following a crash during Ferrari8217;s testing in Monza.
