Agitated locals stopped functioning of a ration shop at Maruganj in Cooch Behar on Thursday morning. The locals alleged that the ration dealer first displayed the stock and price list in the shop, from which they came to know that they had paid more than the official rate, for sugar and kerosene till Wednesday. Though, the dealer got supply of rice and wheat for BPL cardholders, he never distributed it, they alleged. They had the shop closed and informed police and other concerned officials. The Tufanganj-I Block Development Officer BDO, Saikat Das, said Santosh Karmakar have admitted to have been charging higher price for the commodities. A detailed report will be sent to higher authorities, Das said.
