CHANDIGARH, May 27: The local unit of Shiromani Akali Dal SAD today staged a dharna at the Sector 17 Plaza seeking an amendment to the Constitution of India and demanding that the posts of President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India be filled by only such persons who are the citizens of the country by birth.

The protesting Akalis, while criticising the Congress party for projecting Sonia Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate, recalled the days when a number of national heros sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from foreign yolk.

The dharna was addressed by SAD local president Gurpratap Singh Riar, Gurcharan Singh Kahnuwan, Narinder Singh Minhas, Harcharan Singh Sawhney, Mohinder Singh, Amarjit Kaur, Harjinder Kaur, Ravinder Singh Khalsa and Mohan Singh. They accused the Congress party of deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
