Amarnath row: Cong goes into huddle to find solution

The situation in JK was reviewed at a high-level meeting of the Cong, chaired by party's chief trouble shooter Pranab Mukherjee.

With Jammu and Kashmir continuing to be on the boil, the situation in the state was reviewed at a high-level meeting of the Congress in New Delhi on Friday night.

External Pranab Mukherjee held detailed discussions on the latest situation in the state and ways to find a solution with former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC president Saifuddin Soz.

Political Adviser to Congress President Ahmed Patel was also present during the discussions. The meeting came amid the continuing violence in Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land row.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in his Independence Day speech, voiced concern over the situation on the border state and came out strongly against 8220;divisive politics8221; on the Amarnath issue.

Singh also asked political parties not to use religion to divide people but come together in finding a permanent solution to problems plaguing Jammu and Kashmir.
