
All entry and exit points in the district will soon witness stepped up security. This was decided by district collector Chandrakant Dalvi and superintendent of police rural Ravindra Kadam at a meeting held here on Tuesday.
The two senior officers directed that thorough checks be carried out at all the entry and exit points across the district.
8220;At entry points such as Ale Phata, Pune-Mumbai Expressway, Indapur, Satara Road and Nagar Road, the staff will be increased and every commuter will be checked,8221; Dalvi said.
Besides police check-posts, security at the airport and the railway station has also been scaled up. The collector said that strict vigil is being kept at important public places such as dams and pilgrimage centres.
In the city, Joint Commissioner of Police Rajendra Sonawane said they have done security audits of all public buildings. 8220;We have all the information with us and we will augment the staff according to the requirement,8221; he said.
When asked about the hoax threat received on fax on Monday about bombs in the city, he said they did not have any clue as to who sent it and were not able to trace the person as the owner of the shop was not able to give proper details.
8220;We have been sending regular SMSes to people to inform us of anything suspicious,8221; he said.
On Monday, the police had an interaction with 250 managers of the 2,200 banks in the area.
8220;Our staff also visited schools, colleges, institutions and even malls to talk to people and tell them not to believe or indulge in rumour mongering. Those caught doing so can be handed over to the police,8221; he said.
