
Illicit relations between a couple working as Class IV employees in a private hospital ended in a murder on Thursday. Thirty-year-old Sangeeta Devi, a resident of Colony Number 5, was killed by her paramour Ashok Kumar. The incident occurred in Mauli village in Mohali, Sohana Station House Officer SHO Sub-Inspector Mohinder Singh told Newsline.
After the murder, Ashok walked to the police station and confessed to his crime, following which, he was arrested. He has been sent to a day8217;s police remand, said the SHO.
Sangeeta and Ashok had entered into a verbal dual at around 8 pm on Thursday, following which, he strangled her to death, Sangeeta8217;s husband Balram Mauriya told the police. Mauriya said that on Wednesday too, the duo had had a duel which was later sorted out.
Mauriya rushed to Ashok8217;s rented accommodation in Mauli village on Thursday after Sangeeta did not return home, where he found the room bolted from inside.
Mauriya said he saw Ashok strangling his wife and Sangeeta was dead by the time he could help.
Preliminary investigations revealed the two were having an extra-marital affair for the past couple of years and Ashok was insisting that she marry him. As Sangeeta was reluctant, the issue snow-balled, revealed the SHO. Both Sangeeta and Ashok have two children from their marriages.
