Leader of opposition L K Advani on Friday proposed a new definition of GDP: “G stands for good governance at all levels, D stands for development of all regions and for all Indians, P stands for protection for every citizen,” he said, adding, “If my party and the NDA win the election, it would be our firm resolve to make this part of our common minimum programme.”

Earlier, he chose to ignore Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remark that the previous NDA Government could not inspire the economy because of its “divisive agenda”. Both Singh and Advani were speakers at different sessions of FICCI’s annual general body meeting. Singh’s remarks were brought to Advani’s notice, but he did not comment on it.

However, the BJP leader did take a dig at the PM in his speech. “The way this Government has been functioning or has been non-functional, there is no need to comment on its past or present,” said Advani, adding that he would reserve his criticism for the Lok Sabha session.
