With the RSS wish to see him designated as the Deputy Prime Minister realised, it was time L.K. Advani paid a visit to the RSS office at Jhandewalan here. More so, as Sarsanghchalak K.S. Sudarshan was in town, back from the executive council meeting at Kurukshetra.

Advani, who arrived at the RSS office at 10 am, remained closeted with Sudarshan, general secretary Mohan Bhagwat and joint general secretary (BJP affairs) Madan Das Devi and other senior RSS functionaries for about half an hour.

RSS spokesman M.G. Vaidya described Advani’s visit as a courtesy call and maintained that nothing specific was slated for talks. Sources disclosed that the discussions covered a wide range, including the RSS resolution favouring trifurcation of J-K and the coming Assembly elections in the state.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Advani rejected the Sangh demand for trifurcation of the state. He felt that India’s case would be weakened by any such move. ‘‘There is no question of any division of J-K,’’ he said.

The ball was set rolling by the VHP margdarshak mandal which adopted a resolution on June 23 at Hardwar demanding a division of J-K into four parts, including an exclusive enclave for pandits in the Valley with the status of a Union Territory.

This was followed by an RSS resolution seeking a division of the state into three units, Jammu and Kashmir as separate states and Ladakh as a Union Territory.
