
CHANDIGARH, Dec 8: Representatives of various faiths and beliefs came together today under the aegis of the Sarv Dharam Action Committee, Chandigarh, to discuss the existing structure of religious institutions in Chandigarh.
A unanimous resolution was passed by the committee, calling upon the Chandigarh administration and the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation with regard to their demands. Through a press release issued by convenor of the committee M. S. Ratta, the committee has asked the Chandigarh administration not to interfere with the possession status of land and building of religious institutions.
According to Ratta, copies of the resolution have already been forwarded to the UT Finance Secretary, and Municipal Commissioner, Chandigarh.
The committee has asked the authorities to convert lease hold of religious institutions, whether allotted or purchased as free hold, to provide public urinals in the markets adjacent to the religious institutions to help maintain the sanctity of these places.
The committee has further said that in case of a problem the administration is free to discuss and resolve the issue with the management of the religious institutions or with the Sarv Dharam Committee in an open meeting.
