Accident8217; re-registered as dowry death

SURAT, April 13: The Rander police on Tuesday re-registered a case lodged as accidental death as dowry death after the father of a 19-year-old married woman claimed that his daughter had not committed suicide, but was driven to death by her in-laws.

The deceased, Urvashi Patel, had been married only for a month before she committed suicide on April 9. None of the accused have been arrested, although the police have begun interrogations of people concerned.

According to one Magan Govind Patel8217;s application to the commissioner of police on Tuesday afternoon, his daughter8217;s husband and family members tortured her and demanded dowry.
