CALCUTTA, Oct 3: A year ago, it was the dope-tainted Shubhdeep Singh competing under a different name. This time at the Inter-Zonals, it was Sunita Rani, a well known face in the junior athletic circuit, who was competing as Sonia.

Once she won the race, the result was corrected back to Sunita Rani. The reason for this cloak-and-dagger stuff: Sunita Rani had been disqualified in the North Zone selection meet after being found over-age. The question now is if she was over-aged and disqualified in the NZ meet in Chandigarh how could she participate here?

Here, Sunita started the 3000m wearing the chest number 234, which according to the list was given to one Sonia, who was never to be found. The organisers, when cornered claimed it was a typing error. Maybe, but still, how does an over-aged athlete get to compete in a meet for juniors?
