Given turmeric8217;s anti-oxidant property it has been invaluable since ancient times in preserving food. But its medicinal uses are per haps more significant.

Health and fitness faddists will be heartened to learn of the fact that a particular region in Japan, where turmeric tea has been consumed traditionally and regularly, is also coincidentally the place where the highest numbers of centenarians live.

Amongst the traditional uses of turmeric in India is as a common treatment for reducing inflammation and enhancing healing following any injury, accident or sprain. The remedy consists in drinking a glass of milk with a heaped tea spoon of turmeric mixed in it. Turmeric is also one of the principal ingredients in the treatment of liver damage, asthma or respiratory problems. The traditional cure consists of swallowing a teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed with a small amount of ghee to be followed with warm water or milk.
