Satyadev Dubey talks about his film project, association with the city and theatre as he receives the Tanveer Sanman today

He might have shaped the history of theatre for decades but conveniently puts it aside to predict what lies in future for the stage. Theatre personality Satyadev Dubey8217;s passion for the world of stage is undimmed. Currently in the city Dubey is receiving the Tanveer Sanman today by artiste Shriram and Deepa Lagoo8217;s Rupaved Pratishthan.

Dubey is the fifth recipient of the Tanveer Sanman, which has been earlier conferred upon the doyens including Ibrahim Alkazi and Vijay Tendulkar. 8220;At one level receiving the award is funny since I have known the whole family for over 32 years now, and also the boy Tanveer who died at a young age and in a sad situation. They are like a family and so it8217;s a kind of homecoming for me. I have been with the Lagoos when I would come to Pune often while doing Girish Karnad8217;s Tuguluq. I have also conducted a lot of workshops in this city, many of them for Sudarshan Rangmanch,8221; adds Dubey.

Speaking on theatre Dubey feels there is much more to arrive on the stage in the coming years. 8220;Although the journey on stage has been exhilarating I don8217;t want to look back now, the theatre must always look further into its future. It is quite visible, in fact in this city I have observed more playwrights and enthusiasts. Theatre is an obvious expression of excitement and as long as the youngsters are doing something for it the pace will remain. We are old fashioned in our attitude. It is the time to welcome a change, invest in theatre financially and create more spaces where youngsters can yell, shout, jump and dance,8221; he adds. Speaking on the on going exhibition that potrays his life through images at Y B Chavan auditorium Dubey says, 8220; I have been lucky enough to be exhibited too much8230; now I want to withdraw from it and concentrate on the film I am working on. I did not remember all the things that I saw in print in course of the exhibition and it was overwhelming.8221;

The brilliance of Dubey as filmmaker is evident in the film Shantata Court Chalu Aahe. Decades later he is ready with yet another script adding, 8221; I want to make a film before I die and I have been working on it for the last two years named , Ram Naam Satya Hai. I am also planning to cast many of the people whom I have worked with all these years, since their age fits the bill. The film will be in Marathi with an element of fantasy, some reality that will fight the concept of death , at the same time I am trying to lace it with humour.8221;
