MUMBAI, JUNE 6: A hat-trick by International Edward Aranha highlighted fancied Air-India8217;s facile 5-1 victory over Mumbai Port Trust in the semi-finals of the Bombay Hockey Championship, conducted by BHA, at the Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today.

Kishore Kumar scored a fine field goal in the seventh minute to give Air-India the lead. But MPT stunned their opponents by scoring the equaliser five minutes later through Robin Fernandes who neatly deflected the ball to the roof of the net following a hard shot by Deepak Kotian from the 25-yard line.

MPT gallantly held the airmen 1-1 till half-time but crashed in the second session. Aranha completed his hat-trick after Inder Salaria had made it 2-1 in the 39th minute.

In the other semi-final, Western Railway defeated Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers 4-1. D Gupta, Allan Barla, Santha Kumar and Mukhtiar Singh scored for the railwaymen. Conroy Remedious struck for RCF.

In the First Division League tie, Greater Mumbai Police thrashed Rajut XI 7-3. Devidas3, Sanjay Suryavanshi, Vinod Kadam, Wajid Shaikkh and M Jadhav netted for the winners. Gavin Vandrine scored a hat-trick for the losers.
