
A day after the officials of the Municipal Corporation lodged a complaint against Congress councillor Davinder Singh Babla, the latter retaliated in the coin.
Congress councillors, along with four nominated councillors and one councillor from the BSP, submitted a complaint against Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria to UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas.
The councillors have claimed that it was the commissioner and not them who had misbehaved during the Finance and Contract Committee meeting on December 18. They stated that they feel rather disillusioned and humiliated in the way they are treated, especially by the commissioner8217;s office.
The democratic set-up of the Municipal Corporation has repeatedly come under stress during the current regime of the commissioner, the complaint reads.
From the time when Dr Sunkaria took charge and made the Mayor feel like a junior officer to repeatedly making the councillors feel that they have very limited and academic value in the working of the corporation to taking arbitrary and unilateral decisions and running the corporation on his pure whims and fancy, the commissioner has not left any stone unturned in making a terrible mockery of the democratic set-up of the corporation and tried to make it a very a dictatorial work environment, the complaint further states.
The tiff had occurred when the agenda item involving the Action Taken Report was being discussed during the meeting.
Councillor Babla, whom the commissioner accused of behaving rudely, said he only wanted to know the status of work on a project.
Babla said the commissioner must remember that the councillors are also the elected representatives of the people and their word and opinion must be heard and given due consideration.
Those who signed the complaint include Mayor Pardeep Chhabra, senior deputy mayor Anju Beniwala, deputy mayor Harphool Kalyan, councillors Anu Chatrath, Kamlesh, Ravinder Singh Palli, Vijay Rana, Chander Mukhi Sharma, Manjit Singh Chohan, Ram Sumer Maurya, Sheela Devi, Rita Sharma, Kuldip Singh, Jaagjit Singh Kang, Resham Singh Jakhoo, Arshad Khan, Dr Pam Rajput and Amrit Bolaria.
