CHANDIGARH, May 9: The Punjab School Education Board today declared the result of the middle class examinations.

Of the 3,32,939 regular candidates who appeared for the exam, 79,723 candidates failed. Among private candidates, 14,374 failed out of 54,802 candidates.

The overall pass percentage of regular candidates was 76.05 against 73.77 in case of private candidates. Last year the pass percentage was higher: 82 per cent for regular candidates and 75 per cent for private candidates.

As many as 507 candidates have been placed on the merit list released by the Board, with the lowest merit at 535 marks.

Chit Simran Singh of Holy Heart Public School, Sangrur, topped the merit list, securing 586 marks out of 600. The second place was shared by Love Sampuranjot Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kapurthala, and Ekta of Arya Model High School, Bhatinda. Binny Rani, a private candidate, was declared third.

The result will be available at all 21 book depots of the Board at district headquarters. The result will be despatched to the schools in rural areas tomorrow.

The detailed mark sheet of private candidates will be posted tomorrow, while regular candidates will get their detailed mark sheet after May 15.
