September 11, 2001. Never in history has a tragedy been witnessed simultaneously by so many around the world. Never in the history of photography had an event generated so many powerful images at once, says Robert Pledge, curator of Eleven: Witnessing the World Trade Center, 1974-2001, a photo exhibition put together by Contact Press Images, a leading New York based photo agency, and PhotoInk.

The images in the exhibition have been taken by photojournalists from all over the world and capture in detail the horror of the destruction that struck New York last September. Eleven is intended to be a visual eulogy honouring the memory of those who died, as well as the cultural and social significance of the twin towers.

The exhibition will open in New Delhi on September 13 at the India Habitat Centre (and later in Mumbai) and will also travel to several cities in the United States as well as London, Paris, Moscow and Bejing.
