CHANDIGARH, Sept 1: The City police have registered a case against five of its men, including a sub-inspector, for allegedly detaining two women in the now defunct Special Cell in Sector 36, and torturing them. The women had also alleged stripping.

On July 9, Sub-Inspector Devinder Sharma, ASI Jagat Ram, Head Constables Lokinder Singh and Mohan Singh and Constable Jagbir Singh had allegedly stripped two women in the basement of the Sector 36 police station, which housed the Special Cell of the CIA. When the two reported the incident at the Sector 39 police station, an inquiry was conducted by SP City Baldev Singh. The five cops were suspended on July 11 and a Departmental Enquiry was ordered against them. The Special Cell too was dissolved.

The police on Monday, on the basis of findings of the DE, registered a case against the cops for torture and illegal confinement, a police official said.
