
Surat remained on edge on Wednesday as three more bombs were recovered 8212; one from Labheshwar Chokdi in Varachha, soon after Chief Minister Narendra Modi visited the area. The second bomb was found outside the municipal swimming pool at Nana Varachha, while the third was recovered from Heera Bazar in Mahidpur area. All the bombs were successfully defused.
Speaking to the media during his visit here on Wednesday, Modi said the 8220;proxy war8221; by terrorists was aimed at crippling the financial hubs. 8220;Surat and Ahmedabad are the financial capitals of the state. The terrorists are targeting the financial capitals in the country, as they have targeted Jaipur, Mumbai and Bangalore in the last two years,8221; he said.
Modi said the country needs to fight terrorism with its own 8220;proxy war8221;. Saying he was 8220;thankful to the people of Surat for doing an excellent job in giving information of live bombs at different places,8221; Modi said each person who had detected a bomb would get Rs 21,000. He also announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh for information leading to the terrorist network behind the attacks.
8220;I request the people of Surat to keep away from rumors and remain patient. Something will be done. We need only one key,8221; he said. On possible leads in the case, Modi said, 8220;We will go deep into the roots of terrorism and find the accused persons. Investigations are on in the correct direction.8221;
Accompanied by State DGP P C Pandey, Surat police commissioner R M S Brar and other officials, Modi visited different areas of the city from where bombs were recovered on Tuesday.
One of the places he visited was Labheshwar Chokdi area in Varachha. Soon after his visit, a bomb was detected in the area. The bomb disposal squad was rushed to the area, and it was successfully defused.
8220;The bomb was planted outside a shop in Khodiar shopping centre at Premgali, in Labheshwar Chokdi area. The owner of the shop immediately informed the police,8221; said Varachha police inspector V B Patel. Later in the evening, the Surat police control room got a call about a bomb outside the municipal swimming pool at Nana Varachha. This bomb was also defused. According to officials, the bombs recovered today were similar to the ones found on Tuesday.
