The Army on Thursday seized a truckload of ammunition and and diffused shell scrap from Khandroo village where the Army’s biggest arms depot had caught fire on August 11. Two people have been arrested in connection with the seizure. Army sources said the scrap was collected by villagers on the behest of a local contractor. The Army had started looking for ammunition scrap after a civilian was killed and six others were injured when a shell exploded in a house in Khandroo on Monday. A search of the village threw up a huge quantity of scrap and some live shells that the residents had hidden in their houses. On Wednesday night, police and Army seized a truckload of such scrap which was being smuggled out.Commander 2 sector RR , Brigadier K S Rana said: “Investigation revealed that the scrap was meant for a local contractor who had paid the two villagers Rs 10,000”. Rana is looking after rescue and relief operations of those affected in the Khandroo fire incident.
