13 hurt in UP train mishap

NEW DELHI, SEPT 11: In an act of sabotage8217; a 2.19 metre piece of rail was found removed on a bridge between Haldaur and Bijnour stations, 160 km from here, causing derailment of Lucknow-Saharanpur Express injuring at least 13 passengers, two of them seriously.

Five sleeper and one two-tier air-conditioned compartments of Saharanpur-bound train from Gajraula, were derailed at around 7 am on Saturday, a Northern Railway release said.

All the injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital Bijnaur where condition of two of them was stated to be quot;grievousquot;, the release said adding a few others with minor injuries were released after first-aid. Senior railway officials rushed to the site and are supervising the rescue and relief operations.
