With less than two months after Google unveiled the Pixel 9 series, the rumour mill now has its eyes on the much anticipated Pixel 9a. The upcoming budget phone from Google will most likely feature the Tensor G4 chipset and is said to lose the iconic camera visor bar, which spans the entire width of the Pixel 8 series. According to a recent report by Android Headlines citing the known tipster OnLeaks, the Google Pixel 8a won’t feature the signature camera visor but instead feature a dual camera setup housed in a pill-shaped module, which looks similar to the one on the Nothing Phone 2a (review). The report also notes that just like its predecessor - the Pixel 8a, the upcoming device will have fairly noticeable bezels, which might be a bummer for some as most mid-range devices now have a curved screen or have drastically cut down on bezels. Apart from the camera visor, the Google Pixel 9a is also said to sport a metal frame with iPhone-like curved design. Also, there is little to no reason for Google to fiddle with the camera sensors, as the Pixel A series is already one of the best budget camera phones money can buy. As for specs, speculations suggest that the base variant of the Pixel 9a will have 128GB storage and 8GB RAM.Rumour also has it that the Pixel 9a will be launched sometime next year, hinting that the upcoming device may ship with Android 15 out of the box. The company might also offer 7 years of OS updates and security patches, but since the Pixel 9 series came with Android 14, it will be interesting to see if the Pixel 9a will get one more OS update than the Pixel 9 series.
