Kajol recently shared her husband and Singham actor Ajay Devgn’s morning routine, revealing how he is extremely particular about it, to the point that he wakes up “super early” to complete it before stepping out of the house.

“He is quirky. Jo bhi ho jaaye, he has to get up in the morning first and drink his water….do all these 3-4 things without which he doesn’t step out of the house. If I had to get up and catch a flight, I would just wake up, freshen up, and rush to the airport…and then wherever I reach, I will have my water and coffee…But he has to have his coffee, water, etc….he wakes up super early to finish all that,” Kajol told Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube.

The 51-year-old continued, “He is like, before I leave the house, I must do this. So, it’s a little bit of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I wouldn’t say it’s a funny habit, but it’s OCD.”

Taking a cue from her candid confession, let’s understand how a morning routine where you wake up “super early” to kickstart your day helps.

Establishing a morning routine, where you begin the day with practices such as drinking water, can provide both physiological and psychological benefits, said consultant dietitian Garima Goyal.

Goyal added that hydrating first thing in the morning supports digestion, helps the body flush out metabolic waste after the overnight fast, and jumpstarts bowel movements. “Certain ingredients added to water—such as lemon, fennel, or herbal infusions—may give a gentle antioxidant or digestive boost, but more importantly, the act of consuming them creates a ritual that signals the body it is time to transition into an active state,” said Goyal.

Beyond the physical effects, routines have a powerful impact on mental health.

Goyal mentioned that following a predictable sequence every morning, whether it is drinking water, stretching, or simply preparing for the day, reduces decision fatigue and gives a sense of control. “This mental clarity helps lower stress, improves focus, and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. When someone repeatedly practices this, it conditions both the body and the mind to perform better throughout daily tasks,” said Goyal.

In that sense, the discipline of sticking to a morning routine is often more impactful than the drink itself, added Goyal.
