What can be better than eating an almond? Applying its oil on the face. The goodness of almonds is not just limited to snacking; its application on the face is known to do wonders as well. Over the years, this has come to be recognised as a common practice to help soothe and soften the skin. Here are the many benefits of almond oil.

Do jade rollers really work?

The oil components

Almond oil is basically of two types: sweet and bitter. The former is the one that is better suited to be used on the skin. It contains vitamins A and E, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc. Together, they help stimulate the production of new skin cells, prevent skin cell damage, slow down premature aging, and heal acne and other facial marks. It is also believed that when a small amount of the oil is massaged in the under-eye area, it significantly reduces dark circles by increasing the blood circulation.

The benefits

While the benefits of almonds are known, some clinical studies show that applying the oil on the face may result in reduced puffiness under the eyes. This is because almond oil is considered to be anti-inflammatory. It is also known to improve the skin tone and remove the dryness, thereby being the go-to item for skincare in winters.

Almond oil’s fatty acid may help get rid of excess oil, improving the acne situation. According to ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, the oil can be used to reduce scar marks as well, with the vitamin E contributing towards a smoother skin. Additionally — according to a 2016 study published in the Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal — sweet almond oil may help in the treatment of stretch marks as well.

How to use it?

Before using it on the face, do a patch test to understand whether you are allergic to it. Some people use the almond oil as a makeup remover, by dabbing it on the face with cotton balls. You can also simply apply it on the face like a cleanser, before rinsing with water. In the cold months, almond oil can also play the role of a moisturizer. You can apply a little bit of it on the face using your fingertips.
