Madhuri Dixit Nene’s DIY hacks and recipes are easy to follow. One we recently came across (and is trending on social media) is for glowing skin. “If you plan to step out in the evening and your skin feels dull and dry, all you need is some slices of cucumber and raw milk,” the Maja Ma ctor said on her YouTube channel.

How to make the DIY remedy?

Ingredients

Cucumber
Raw milk

Instructions

*Soak a few sliced cucumbers in milk and keep them in the freezer for 10 minutes.
*Put the cucumber slices on your face for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.
*This should give you fresh skin

“Your skin will look like it’s woken up. It will look like you are fresh. After that, you can do your makeup. This helps your skin to revive quickly,” said Dixit Nene.

Does it work?

Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, noted that applying cucumber slices to the face is a “classic hack.”

“This remedy is an update to the hack, but it does not significantly improve the outcome or its benefits. However, it may help refresh your skin,” said Dr Kapoor.

What to note?

However, milk may not be “suitable for everyone as it can irritate the skin while causing redness and breakouts for some”. “This hack isn’t backed by scientific research. More research needs to be done to prove its effectiveness in making your skin glow. This hack may provide you with temporarily glowing skin. It takes continuous efforts to achieve healthy and glowing skin,” said Dr Kapoor.

One needs to take proactive steps like eating well-balanced foods, 7 to 8 hours of sound sleep, managing stress levels, drinking plenty of water, and maintaining a proper skincare routine as the doctor prescribes. While home remedies like these may seem tempting, they cause more harm to your skin than any good. “Always consult a doctor before trying new hacks or home remedies on your skin. Your doctor may help you weigh that hack’s potential benefits and side effects to make an informed decision,” said Dr Kapoor.
