One person was found dead and several others were injured following a clash between alleged supporters of the Jan Suraaj Party and the Janata Dal (United) in Tartar village under Ghoswari police station limits in Mokama Assembly constituency Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, the incident took place between 3:30 pm and 3:40 pm when the Ghoswari police station in-charge received information about a fight breaking out between two groups near Tartar village. Acting on the information, the police reached the spot along with forces deployed for election area domination.
“Upon arrival, officers found two to three four-wheelers parked near the site, with broken windshields. Inside one of the vehicles, police discovered the body of an elderly man, identified as Dular Chand Yadav, 75, son of Prasadi Yadav, a resident of Tartar village,” a senior officer said, adding that the deceased is believed to have had multiple cases, including murder and under the Arms Act, against him.
Jan Suraaj Party candidate from the Mokama constituency, Priyadarshi Piyush, allegedly told the police that he was on his way for election campaigning when he encountered the JD-U’s convoy between Tartar and Basavanchak villages.
“He said that as the two convoys came face to face, an altercation broke out, followed by stone pelting and physical assault,” the officer said.
Around the same time, police also received information that JD-U candidate Anant Singh’s convoy had come under attack near Basavanchak village.
“He [Anant Singh] alleged that his convoy was attacked with bricks and stones by members of the Jan Suraaj Party, leading to injuries to several of his workers,” the officer said.

Following the incident, the Patna (Rural) SP visited the site to collect evidence and CCTV footage.
