The golden hour makeup trend is slowly gaining traction on social media. (Source: Unsplash)You know that rose-gold glow you get just when the sun sets, the golden hour, as the time is called? You could ditch the makeup and your skin would still have an ethereal glow during this time, as if you had a personal Sun.
We’d be unstoppable (body issues what?) if we could walk around forever with a golden hour filter. Well, it’s somewhat a reality. Inspired from this glow of the skin during the golden hour, a new beauty trend has emerged. Called golden hour makeup, the trend is going viral on TikTok and Instagram.
So, what is it about? According to makeup artist Sukoon Gulati, the trend is just a fancier name for the bronzed look with an illuminating glow.
“It focuses on warm tones on the face rather than white and pink tones that we generally use for base and blush respectively. It’s more of browns and warmer tones,” she explains.

Gulati elaborates that it’s neither a full glam look nor a minimalistic no-makeup makeup look but it lies somewhere in between the two.
As the name suggests, this makeup look has a ton of highlighting and bronzer involved, which Gulati describes as “major game changers” for the process.
Here are some steps that you should follow to ace the golden hour makeup look:
Invest in a good moisturiser or primer
You should invest in a good moisturiser to achieve this look as it hinges on glowy, well-moisturised skin. If your skin’s oils go crazy with moisturisers, Gulati suggests using a primer that has an illuminating finish.
Incorporate bronzer into your routine
The key to this look is to give a feeling of warmth to your face without sunlight. In such a case, bronzer is the go-to product to create this illusion. Gulati recommends contouring only with bronzers to achieve that.
Skip the lipstick or keep it minimal
You can skip your regular plums and pinks and keep it minimal with a nude lip or even go for a transparent gloss as the idea is to have it look natural.
Use nudes and browns
Gulati advises against using any kind of pink shade while doing your makeup. Opt for nudes and brown, she says.
