‘No less than a magical drink’: Bhagyashree shares fresh green juice recipe for glowing skin; doctors urge caution

Always consult experts or a doctor before drinking something new like green juice to understand its potential benefits and side effects on health, said Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist and cosmetologist, Shareefa's Skin Care Clinic.

Bhagyashree‘s home remedies are quite popular on social media. In her latest tip, the Maine Pyaar Kiya actor shared the recipe for a green juice made with spinach, celery, coriander leaves, and amla juice that she said can give you glowing skin and good health. All you have to do is mix the green leafy ingredients with amla juice in a blender. “It is no less than a magical drink for your health, skin, and gut,” said Bhagyashree.

Does it work?

Soumita Biswas, chief nutritionist, Aster RV Hospital, Bengaluru emphasised that from “a nutritional perspective”, raw vegetable juices are not recommended. “Raw vegetables are home to parasites that cannot be destroyed by just washing, so chances of infection or cross-contamination are much higher. Raw foods are also harder to digest for the body when compared to cooked food,” said Biswas.

Cooked food is more bio-available for absorption, as it reduces stress on the digestive tract. “It’s always better to have cooked vegetables either as soup or sabji or curry,” said Biswas.

Any leafy vegetable is a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, which is good for the skin. “Also these are rich in fibre, which prevents constipation. Magnesium helps ensure your skin is armoured against external damage as it regulates cellular regeneration and repair. Potassium present in it supports the rapid growth of new cells. This function helps skin to look young, healthy, and glowing,” mentioned Biswas.

While green juice is nutritional and contains multiple benefits, drinking too much of green juice can hamper your health. “It contains oxalates in high quantities that can be dangerous for people with medical conditions like chronic kidney disease,” said Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist and cosmetologist, Shareefa’s Skin Care Clinic.

According to Dr Chause, green juice can interfere with gut health if consumed in excess leading to digestive problems like bloating, gas, constipation, and stomach pain.

“Always consult experts before drinking something to understand its potential benefits and side effects on health. Your doctor or dietician can suggest you a tailored diet plan and tips on making green juice by considering factors like medical conditions, and allergies to avoid further complications,” said Dr Chause.
