Sonnalli Seygall never fails to serve health and fitness goals, even when on a vacation. From keeping herself physically active with an array of yoga poses and other forms of exercise to consuming healthy food items, the actor ensures that her well-being is a priority, no matter where she is. We witnessed something similar during her recent London vacation when she posted a snap of her healthy morning drink.
Wondering what is it? It’s the good ol’ celery juice. With a glass full of celery juice in her hands against the gorgeous backdrop of London, Sonnalli wrote, “Healthy start to my morning. Celery juice.”
For the unversed, celery juice is an intensely refreshing and hydrating drink that must find a place in your diet, too. Before we delve into its plethora of health benefits, let’s understand how we can whip it up at home.
*Choose organically grown celery. Feel free to keep the leaves for another culinary use as they can sometimes impart bitter tones to your juice.
*Cut down the root of the celery to separate the stalks. Rinse them under running water until really clean. Shake off to get rid of water.
*Add a little bit of water to the base of your blender cup, then throw in the celery stalks, and blend.
*If you want, you may squeeze in some lemon juice.
*Once the celery is blended, strain it through a sieve before drinking or storing.
Deepali Sharma, clinical nutritionist, CK Birla Hospital (R), Delhi, said that celery juice is recommended for its possible health benefits. These include hydration due to its high water content, a rich supply of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K and potassium, and antioxidants that may aid in the reduction of oxidative stress.
“Some proponents believe it assists digestion, promotes weight loss, and can even balance the pH levels of the body, although there is little scientific evidence to back up these claims. While celery juice can be a nutritious supplement to a well-balanced diet, it’s important to think of it as part of a healthy lifestyle rather than a miracle cure-all,” she said.
Sharma, however, added that certain people should use caution or avoid drinking celery juice entirely. “Those who are allergic to celery should certainly avoid it. Individuals on blood thinners or those with kidney problems should also check their healthcare providers before adding celery juice to their diet owing to potential interactions or concerns about oxalate content. People with digestive issues or a history of low blood pressure should exercise caution as celery juice may not be suited for everyone,” the nutritionist said.
Sonnalli isn’t the only one to count on celery juice for a health boost. Earlier, Shweta Kawaatra posted on Instagram about the benefits of consuming this wonder drink. “I love celery juice. No, not the taste (it’s actually yuck!) but the benefits! For best results, I’m flushing down 500ml of celery juice empty stomach. Best if taken every day,” she wrote, with a video of her drinking this healthy drink.
