Up All Night

A new addition to Delhi’s lounge roster is this cocktail bar with English overtones

Operating only once the sun sinks, Penthouse, newly opened in Greater Kailash 1, at first glance resembles a chic cocktail bar; which it is. However, the long licentious liquor list and cocktail collage and ambient lit interiors are bolstered by an eclectic and well-executed food menu.

Like in a European league football match, we begin by crying fowl; a smattering of chicken-based dishes, bolstered by a Cheddar Jalapeño Roll, because your narrator is clearly so health conscious (insert smirk). The rolls come a la spring (the starter, not the season) with a mash of cheese and chilli among a bed of broccoli, cylindrically ensconced in crispy fried filo sheets. After this we get cooped with all them chickens.

The Curry Tart is first, and most amusing to our bouche it is: tender, dessicated chicken redolent in curried spices nestled in a flaky, almost dainty tartlet shell. The Olive Chicken comprises Cajun-dusted chicken supremes, grilled with a light hand and wrapped around pitted black olive and drizzled with olive oil, all the more to make you go all pop-eyed. Last, but certainly not the least, is the Chicken Tikka Trio, tender thigh pieces served with three broad strokes of red, white and green marinades. Paint your own palate as you choose.

Having pandered to our avian avarice, we move on to the mains. A Pomodoro Risotto and Grilled Sole seem apposite after the slaughter at the henhouse and so we dig in. The risotto, despite being wholly vegetarian (insert gratuitous gasp), is the piece de resistance of the meal, a soothing medley of arborio rice, roasted tomatoes and Parmesan, textured with a crunch of seasonal vegetables. The fish is fish is fish, lightly grilled and comforting to our health pretensions.

Meal for two: Rs 2,500 (including taxes and alcohol)
Address: Penthouse, M Block, GK 1; 40579361
