Actor Deepika Padukone’s former nutritionist, Shweta Shah, recently revealed her secret to healthy and glowing skin. “DIY pack that I usually do, and use every day, seven days a week,” Shah wrote in an Instagram post.

How to make it?

1 tsp – Flaxseed gel
Kasturi turmeric powder
Rose water

Method

*Boil the mixture of mulethi powder with flaxseed gel till it forms a jelly texture.
*Add kasturi turmeric powder and rose water.
*Mix it properly and apply the pack.

How to apply?

*Make the mixture and keep it frozen in ice cubes.
*When I take a bath, I massage a cube on my face.

“It tightens your skin. It smoothens the skin. It removes dark spots and even hydrates your skin. So, automatically, your skin is glowing and tightened,” said Shah.

Taking a cue, we decided to explore if the remedy truly works.

While the ingredients offer promising topical effects such as hydration, calming inflammation, and reducing pigmentation, not all skin types may tolerate such formulations, especially with daily use, said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietician and certified diabetes educator.

According to Malhotra, ingredients like mulethi can irritate sensitive or dry skin if over-applied, and flaxseed gel must be appropriately stored to prevent spoilage. “It’s advisable to limit use to three to four times a week and always perform a patch test. While natural remedies can support healthy skin, true glow also depends on internal health—adequate hydration, vitamin C-rich fruits, omega-3 fatty acids, and a balanced diet under a qualified dietitian’s guidance play a vital role,” said Malhotra.

Most importantly, skincare is personal, and for any persistent concerns, consulting a qualified dermatologist is essential for safe and effective results.

Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist, Dr Shareefa Skin Care Clinic, Mumbai, seconded her and said that a dermatologist should first examine the skin, diagnose the exact problem, and then suggest an appropriate skincare regimen.

“Don’t use any ingredients or products on your own. It is not a good idea to blindly follow any social media hacks; it’s much safer and smarter to adhere to the doctor’s instructions. Your skin deserves personalised care, not unverified experiments that may give you a tough time. So, take utmost care of yourself,” said Dr Chause.
